I was duck hunting on the Mississippi River near my home on La Moille Island. I ended up shooting mallards, teal and one duck that I couldn't identify immediately. It turned out to be a rare, fully plumated male gadwall. This 'surprise' duck was the inspiration for my 'La Moille Island Gadwall.'
